Our Global Scams report examines the rapid global growth of scams around the world, drawing on proprietary data from more than 370 financial institutions serving more than 760 million customers across five continents.

In this report, you’ll discover:

  • Scam growth slows: Attempted scams reported by BioCatch customers increased 35% globally in 2026. While still significant, that increase is well below the 65% rate of growth BioCatch reported in 2025, suggesting institutions using behavioral intelligence to detect fraud are making a marked impact in slowing the growth of social engineering scams
  • Employment scams triple: Employment scam victims increased by 258% in 2026, more than any other scam type.
  • Scams overwhelmingly mobile: Nine out of 10 reported scam attempts took place on mobile devices in 2026, up five percentage points from last year.
  • Investment scams most costly: Investment scams continue to account for the largest share of global scam losses, with an average case value of $6,600, nearly five times the average across all scam types.
  • Purchase scams most commong: Purchase scams remain the most commonly reported scam type, accounting for nearly one-third of all cases.
