We are honored to receive the 2025 Datos Insights Best Scam and APP Fraud Prevention Innovation award for BioCatch Trust™. It’s a proud moment for me, for the entire BioCatch team, and—most importantly—for our customers who believed in the vision and were willing to take a chance on tackling a persistent fraud problem in a new way. So, how did it all begin?

The idea for BioCatch Trust started with a simple but unsettling realization: existing scam prevention controls were not seeing the full picture. Every scam, no matter how clever, needs a mule account to succeed. Yet banks are largely blind to what is happening on the receiving end of transactions. With this visibility, we can work with 100% of the intelligence needed to stop fraud.

I remember thinking, what if we could close that gap? What if banks could share real-time insights, securely and privately, about destination account risk before money ever moved? That’s when the concept of a collaborative intelligence network took shape, and BioCatch Trust was born.

We knew the idea was ambitious, and we also knew the challenges. Banks are often hesitant to share information, and for good reasons. There’s a lack of clear guidance on what can be shared, concerns about protecting customer privacy, and, frankly, little incentive for institutions to open their data to others. Overcoming those barriers wasn’t just a technical challenge; it was a trust challenge (no pun intended). If we wanted this network to work, we had to design it in a way that made privacy non-negotiable, compliance crystal clear, and participation genuinely valuable for every bank involved.

Once we put a stake in the ground that we wanted to pursue this, the next question was: where could we bring it to life? Australia quickly emerged as the clear choice. The banks there have a well-earned reputation for being at the forefront of innovation and adopting cutting-edge technology. There’s also a strong culture of collaboration across the industry which is critical for a network built on shared intelligence. And the timing couldn’t have been better. Market conditions were primed with initiatives like the Scam Safe Accord and Scams Prevention Framework (SPF) legislation. It was the perfect environment to prove what BioCatch Trust could do.

It took more than a year to get it right. We first had to pinpoint exactly which data would deliver the most accurate, real-time risk assessments and then build the risk model to transform that data into actionable intelligence. In parallel, we navigated the intricate process of getting the legal teams at four major banks to agree to share this intelligence. More than once, we were told it couldn’t be done and that the legal and regulatory hurdles were simply too high. But we persisted, and one agreement at a time, what was once “impossible” became undeniably possible.

From concept to results

This gets us to where we are today. The results speak for themselves. In Australia, BioCatch Trust now protects over 80% of the adult online banking population, evaluating and matching more than AUD $500 billion in payments in real time. The network achieves payment matching rates above 65% and continues to climb, with forecasts to exceed 80% by the end of 2025. Transactions flagged with a high Trust risk score show exceptional detection rates across major scam typologies with results delivered in under 500 milliseconds per query. What started as a bold idea has become a proven, high-performance network that stops scams before money ever leaves a customer’s account.

It doesn't stop there. Today, BioCatch Trust is planting new roots across the globe with the launch in Argentina. As of May 26, 2025, Banco Galicia, Naranja X, and Santander Argentina have joined, forming the first inter bank intelligence-sharing network in the Western Hemisphere.

BioCatch has proven that collaborative intelligence works and that it can be deployed at scale to stop scams before they happen. From Australia to Argentina, BioCatch Trust is building a global network of shared protection, one market at a time. Winning the 2025 Datos Insights Best Scam and APP Fraud Prevention Innovation award is just another powerful validation that this approach is solving a long-standing market gap in scam prevention.

And we’re not stopping here. The need is urgent, the momentum is real, and the possibilities are wide open. Where will we be next? Time will tell.
